Tasting Notes

Aromas of star fruit, pink grapefruit, white pepper, sage, and yellow stone fruit lead the nose. The palate is juicy and medium-bodied, with expressive citrus, mineral salinity, and a clean, peppery finish.

Wine Details / Description

F.X. Pichler is among the Wachau's most celebrated estates, farming steep terraced vineyards along the Danube where plantings date back to the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Robert Parker once called it the Château Latour of the Wachau, and the estate is now certified organic and works entirely by hand at harvest.

The Dürnsteiner bottling is a village wine drawn from young vines in the estate's top terraced sites around Dürnstein, including parcels near Loibenberg, Kellerberg, Steinertal, Mühlpoint, and Klosteratz, blended with mature-vine fruit from the valley plain. The wine is gently pressed, fermented spontaneously with ambient yeasts, and aged on fine lees in large wooden casks.
