2023 Taupenot-Merme Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Bel Air
Perched atop Grand Cru Chambertin-Clos de Beze and next to Grand Cru Ruchottes-Chambertin, sits one of the great (and smallest) Premier Crus:
Bel Air. Taupenot-Merme is its best producer, making a wine with ethereal lift and complex layers of flavors going from sweet strawberry and raspberry to cinnamon with hints of forest floor. The 2023 is the best vintage from this hidden corner of Gevrey since 2019, one of those rare wines that generated repeat orders all year long. While those adjacent sites command prices well into the thousands, this remains one of Burgundy's great values at $267.
