Tasting Notes

Aromas of red cherry, dried rose, blood orange, sweet spice, and warm earth lead the nose. The palate is fine-boned and energetic, with silky tannins, bright acidity, and a long, savory finish.

Wine Details / Description

Podere San Giuseppe was founded in 1910, abandoned during the Second World War, and bought and revived by the di Campalto family in 1992. Stella di Campalto has run it since, farming certified organic from 1996 and biodynamic from 2002, with Demeter certification in 2005. She left the Brunello Consorzio in 2009 to co-found Sangiovese per Amico, a terroir-focused growers' group.

The estate lies in the southeast corner of Montalcino outside Castelnuovo dell'Abate, near the Ombrone river, spanning five vineyards across twelve distinct soil types including sand, quartz, limestone, and volcanic material. Rosa is a selection from the warm southeast-facing sites, fermented spontaneously in a gravity-fed cellar with no cultured yeasts or enzymes, then aged roughly forty-three months in large old botti followed by more than five years in bottle before release.
