2023 Denis Bachelet Bourgogne Rouge

A regional Burgundy that drinks well above its label, from a Gevrey-Chambertin domaine built on the idea of finesse first. Bachelet's Bourgogne Rouge is fleshy, elegant, and richly perfumed.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of black cherry, poached plum, fresh earth, and sweet spice lead the nose. The palate is medium-bodied and giving, with juicy concentration, fine-grained tannins, and an earthy, lingering finish.

Wine Details / Description

Denis Bachelet has run this small family domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin since 1983. Born in Belgium and drawn in through childhood visits to his Burgundian grandparents, he works to a single guiding idea, la finesse avant tout, controlling yields through green harvest and sorting rigorously since installing a vibrating table in 2003.

The Bourgogne Rouge comes from about 0.6 hectares across two southeast-facing lieux-dits, Pressonier in Gevrey and Grand Champ, on clay and limestone. Vines were planted in 1977 and 1986. Fruit is fully destemmed and given a cool pre-fermentation maceration before ambient-yeast fermentation, then fifteen to eighteen months in barrel with very little new oak, bottled by hand without fining or filtration.
