2001 Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino
"The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is stunning in the glass, its brilliant, translucent ruby red color on display. A seductive bouquet of cherry, cinnamon, clove and spiced orange lift up, blossoming further to reveal fresh mint and a whiff of sweet white smoke. It’s silky in texture, both feminine and elegant, with an unbelievably pure display of ripe floral-laced strawberries, enlivened by mouthwatering acidity. There’s only the slightest tug of tannin remaining, more of an accent than a statement. This tapers off remarkably spry without any sign of decline after twenty years of maturity. Hints of peach tea, inner rose and a twang of sour citrus lingers for well over a minute in this absolutely glorious expression of mature Brunello."
