Aromas of raspberry, cherry, dried herbs, forest floor, and limestone dust lead the nose. The palate is concentrated and silky, with fine-grained tannins, earthy complexity, and a long, savory finish.

Maison Louis Jadot was founded in Beaune in 1859, and Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot is the growing estate that holds Clos des Ursules as a monopole. The vineyard takes its name from the Ursuline nuns whose convent was established here in 1626, and it was bought by Louis Henry Denis Jadot in 1826.

The clos covers just over two hectares within the Vignes Franches climat, split by a vineyard road into a 1.26-hectare upper section planted in 1963 and a 0.88-hectare lower section planted in 1975. Fruit is hand-harvested into small crates and fermented with indigenous yeasts in open vats after a brief cold soak, then aged eighteen months in French oak from Jadot's own cooperage.

Pairs well with roast duck, delicate meat dishes, mushroom dishes, roast chicken, veal, and most cheeses.

Serve at cellar temperature. Decant for thirty to sixty minutes. Drinking well now with further cellaring possible.
