2001 De Montille Pommard 1er Cru Les Pezerolles 1.5L
(This was one of the estate's least hail-affected vineyards in 2001, according to current winemaker Brian Sieve; vinified with 50% whole clusters and aged in just 10% new oak): Medium red with an amber rim. Musky aromas of redcurrant and truffle, plus a hint of balsamic sweetness. Wonderfully silky, seamless, harmonious wine with complex flavors of strawberry, raspberry, plum, minerals and earth. Full of fruit and given shape by superb underlying structure. This utterly delicious wine finishes impressively long and suavely tannic, with lovely spicy lift. Father and son Hubert and Etienne de Montille shared responsibility for this vintage."
