R.H. Coutier has been growing vines in Ambonnay since 1760, and was the first family to plant Chardonnay in the Pinot-dominant village. Much of his farmed production is still sold to Moët, Taittinger and Veuve Clicquot. Though they grown and ferment all of their own wine, they are not recognized as a RM (grower-producer) because their fruit is pressed at the local cooperative.
