Thierry Germain is referred to as no less than a “Loire legend” and an heir to the region’s cult producer, the Foucault brothers of Clos Rougeard. A Bordeaux native, he moved to the Loire in 1991 and was mentored by Charly Foucault starting when he was just 23 years old. Germain now farms almost 30 hectares of vines, the Chenin Blanc in Saumur and the Cabernet Franc in Saumur-Champigny, as one of France's top Biodynamic growers.
Clos du Moulin is produced from 80-year-old vines on one hectare of sand, clay, and Senonien limestone soils in Saumur. It goes through slow fermentation in 600L demi-muid for three months, then aged in barrel for an additional eight months.
