Martin Nigl, of Weingut Nigl in the Kremstal region of Austria, carries on a historic family legacy of farming their slate dominant vineyards of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling that go back over 200 years. He works exclusively with stainless steel for aging to preserve freshness, avoids fining his wine, and relies on native yeasts for fermentation. For those who like crisp and crystalline whites, this is absolute textbook, and a wonderful way to get introduced to serious Grüner Veltliner at entry-level pricing. Not to mention 2013 in Austria is shaping up to be perhaps the most complete vintage since 1997!
