The One & Only
Germany's 2019 vintage does not need any more introduction than do the wines of Joh. Jos. Prüm. A master producer meets a vintage for the masters. The high ripeness, high acidity remind me of 2010. Should you look in my cellar, you will find these 2019s stacked up alongside 2008s and those epic 2010s.
My visit to J.J. Prüm just before harvest in 2012 proved there are many more mysteries than answers to be found at this historic estate. The estate's idyllic setting at the Mosel river shore was a fantastic place to taste wines with Dr. Katharina Prüm, but alas, as is often the case with visitors, a cellar tour was off-limits.
Many things are left unknown about the methods employed here, but one thing is abundantly clear, these are the very most regal and crystalline examples of Mosel riesling.
