In the late 1990s, after realizing their estate in Monsant was more reminiscent of the Côtes du Rhône, Joan and Josep grafted their Syrah vines to Grenache and converted to biodynamic farming—now Demeter certified. Montsant is among the best-valued regions in Spain, and Altaroses (Garnacha) and Planella (Carinyena/Syrah) are fresh, contemporary iterations of Priorat wine with unbridled fruit and finesse.
